Here's What's Happening Right Now
The EOL Notice
Hologic has designated several Dimensions® models as end of life, including the Avia, 5000, 8000, and 9000 systems. More models are coming. When a system reaches EOL, Hologic stops providing technical support, software updates, and replacement parts under their service contracts.
The Replacement Pressure
Hologic's recommendation is a new system. For most facilities, especially critical access hospitals and independent breast centers, that is a significant capital investment that was not in this year's budget.
The Windows Question
Many Dimensions systems run on Windows® 10. Hologic lists Windows 10 as end of life, but Microsoft's extended LTSC support means these systems can remain serviceable well beyond Hologic's own timeline.

Windows 10 and LTSC
Hologic End of Life and Windows 10: What Your Facility Needs to Know
Hologic lists Microsoft® Windows 10 as end of life on their own obsolescence guide. What may not be clear from that notice is that the version of Windows 10 installed on many Dimensions systems is the Long Term Servicing Channel, or LTSC. Microsoft's extended support for LTSC runs well beyond the standard Windows 10 end of life date.
BMI can provide documentation from Microsoft that confirms your system's extended support timeline. That documentation gives your facility time to make a planned decision about your mammography program, not a forced one.
