A Scapula Y (Scap Y) view is used in trauma imaging to evaluate the scapula and shoulder joint, particularly for dislocations or fractures.
Whether the patient is standing, recumbent on the table, or on a cart, the positioning principles are the same.
Angle the patient so the area of interest—for example, the right scapula—is rotated 45° to 60° away from the table.
This rotation brings the scapula into the correct alignment for the Y-view.
Do not overcomplicate the setup.
The positioning is identical to that of a standing patient—just adapt for the patient’s mobility.
When done correctly, this technique produces a clear, diagnostic Scapula Y image while accommodating trauma patient limitations.
