How a New Portable X-Ray is Bringing Patients Back to Our Community Hospital

In a small community of just 1,200 people, every patient counts — and so does every second in the care process. For a time, many patients were traveling to outside facilities for imaging. Now, with the installation of a new Fujifilm portable X-ray system from Brown’s Medical Imaging, the goal is to bring them back by offering faster, more efficient, and higher-quality care close to home.

Better Imaging Without Leaving the Room

The new portable system delivers images instantly, eliminating the old process of leaving the room, running plates, and hoping the image was good enough. Now, technologists can confirm image quality on the spot, reducing repeats and speeding up diagnosis.

For doctors, having images available immediately at the patient’s bedside is a game changer — especially in emergencies. If a patient needs to be flown out, the improved workflow can cut preparation time in half, potentially saving lives.

More Comfortable, More Capable

The portable X-ray’s smooth, quiet operation and ease of use allow the department to handle exams — such as ankles and knees in the ER — that were previously too cumbersome to perform portably. Its lower radiation dose (often half or even a third of previous exposure) improves patient safety without sacrificing image quality.

Keeping Care Local

When patients see the high level of care and technology available locally, they’re more likely to stay in town for their imaging needs. That means more convenience for them and stronger support for the local hospital.
