To become board eligible for mammography, you must first meet the Mammography Quality Standards Act (MQSA) requirements set by the FDA. This includes:
40 hours of mammography education
25 supervised mammography exams under the guidance of a registered mammography technologist
These requirements must be completed and verified before moving on to additional clinical logging.
The ARRT requires proof of your MQSA completion—both your education hours and supervised exams—before you can log additional cases. All subsequent clinical work is recorded using the ARRT online verification tool.
After MQSA verification, you must complete:
75 additional mammography exams
Various required procedures, with some needing multiple repetitions
Take the didactic coursework first (40 hours of mammography education).
Complete the 25 supervised exams in a clinical setting.
Verify MQSA completion in the ARRT tool.
Log remaining exams and procedures to meet board eligibility.
Start with the mammography course to complete didactic requirements.
Enter externship courses to gain supervised clinical experience.
Transition to independent logging of all additional procedures and exams.
