How to Position for the Danelius (Dunn) View in Hip Imaging
The Dunn view is a specialized X-ray positioning technique used to evaluate the hip joint, particularly in cases of femoroacetabular impingement (FAI) or other structural abnormalities.
Key Difference from the Frog-Leg View
While the frog-leg lateral view superimposes the greater and lesser trochanters, the Dunn view aims to keep them separate for better visualization of femoral head-neck morphology.
Basic Positioning Steps
Patient Supine on the table.
Flex the knee to approximately 45 degrees.
Externally rotate the hip about 30 degrees.
Pinky toe rests on the table for correct alignment.
This positioning provides an unobstructed look at the femoral head-neck junction, allowing radiologists to better assess potential impingements or deformities.
